US: Caregiving strategy faces scrutiny after omission of transgender individuals and caregivers of colour

A national strategy intended to bolster support for family caregivers is facing significant criticism following the quiet removal of specific provisions acknowledging the unique challenges faced by transgender people and caregivers from Black and racialised communities. The National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers, initially released in 2022 as a comprehensive roadmap, underwent dozens of unannounced revisions this year under the Trump administration.

Regulator reminds UK government departments of equality duties

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has written to the majority of UK ministerial government departments, reminding them of their responsibilities under the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED).

Under the PSED, government departments have a legal obligation to consider the likely equality impact of their policies, identify actions to address any negative equality implications, and monitor equality impacts on an ongoing basis. These steps will play a role in helping the Government to achieve its ambition of improving opportunity.

Swept under the rug: Young women’s experiences of reporting unfair treatment at work - Young Womens Trust reports

Young women are being ignored when they report workplace rights violations like bullying, discrimination and illegally low pay. New research shows that instead of getting support, they’re being dismissed – and for some, it’s forcing them out of work altogether.

The Young Women's Trust surveyed 1000 young women who’d experienced unfair treatment at work to find out about the impact it had on them, and their experiences of reporting it.

Acas finds almost half of UK employees experience workplace conflict

Disabled staff face highest levels of discord, as experts say disputes can affect morale, wellbeing and motivation.

Conflict at work has contributed to higher levels of stress, anxiety and depression in 57 per cent of employees, with 49 per cent reporting a drop in motivation or commitment following disputes.
